Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced 884 new cases of COVID-19 in the state Thursday, and Secretary of State Michael Adams gave an update on voting.
The overall total of cases in Kentucky is now at 77,455—the governor says this is less than reported at this point last week, but due to other factors, this is shaping up to be the single highest week for new cases since the pandemic began.
The positivity rate continues to stay below five percent and crept down once again to 4.1 percent. Eleven more Kentuckians have died, including a 31-year old male from Warren County, putting that total at 1,234.
Secretary Adams says as of now, they’ve had over 600,000 requests for an absentee ballots, and they’ve already received back a good portion of those.
The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is Friday, and those can be returned either via the mail or in drop boxes at clerk’s offices across the state. He says roughly 30,000 people registered to vote on Monday, which was the deadline to do so and be able to vote in the upcoming general election. Early voting begins in most counties on October 13, and there will be multiple voting locations for in-person voting on Election Day.
The Tennessee Department of Health reported 1,992 new cases of COVID-19 and 63 new deaths—Montgomery County reported 26 new cases, Robertson County added 20 and Stewart County gained two.
