Sanctuary, Inc. domestic violence awareness campaign underway

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Sanctuary Inc. is in the midst of their awareness campaign and searching for a local artist to help out.

Executive Director Heather Lancaster and Community Educator Carrie Norvell appeared on WHOP Monday to promote the events they have underway this month.  Lancaster says providing the information those in need can make use of is vitally important in making sure people know they have a place to find safety.

Norvell says they hope to have a mural painted on the walls of the building in support of the Green Dot program, and she invited interested artists to contact her at 270-885-4572.

Lancaster says they’ve had to adapt during the COVID-19 pandemic, but they continue to serve those in need in the nine county Pennyrile region.

Kentucky State Police is joining in on an awareness campaign across the state, saying domestic violence is prevalent in any community and affects people of different gender, age and race. In response to the high number of crime and domestic violence victims, Kentucky State Police employed sixteen victim advocates to provide support services and resources to crime victims across the Commonwealth.
