Mike Foster Golf Scramble raises funds to benefit HCC students

The annual Mike Foster Golf Scramble went off in cooler weather than usual, but that didn’t stop participants from raising money to benefit Hopkinsville Community College.

According to a news release, 34 teams participated participated in the competition that was the 30 year anniversary of the event—since it’s inception in 1990, the net proceeds from the annual charitable event have collected approximately $256,200. The three founders—Mike Foster, Don Atwood and Hill Ferguson—were present prior to the shotgun start, and each received a commemorative plaque honoring the occasion.

The scramble supports not only textbook scholarships but also Pathfinder Pantry, a new resource for students at HCC, providing food, personal hygiene, and infant items to those in need.

Sponsorships of the event were reportedly up 300 percent, according to coordinators. Winning first-place and $600 was Buy Rite, second-place and $500 went to Trigg County Hospital. Sixth-place and $300 in prize money was captured by Planters Bank. The $100 prize for half the field went to Westate Construction. Steve Akin on the Mid Continent Springs team won the putting contest.
