Ky. gains 910 new COVID-19 cases, Gov. gives guidance for Halloween

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced 910 new cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth Thursday, while providing guidance on how to have a safe and healthy Halloween.

Those new cases bring the number of overall cases in the state up to 69,728, 146 of new cases are children 18 years of age and young and the positivity rate is now at 4.11 percent. Governor Beshear says all signs are pointing to an escalation of cases, especially as temperatures get cooler outside, and he urged everyone to get their flu shots, and keep up those health guidelines, especially frequently washing your hands.

Halloween, and trick-or-treating, are bound to look a little different this year in the midst of the ongoing pandemic, and Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack says they’ve come up with some guidance that he thinks will let kids have fun this Halloween while having fun. They’re recommending that adult Halloween parties be delayed until a safer time—this year is about the kids—and he says face masks need to be worn along with costumes and candy delivered in a way that leaves plenty of distance between people.

He says avoid ‘trunk-or-treat’ events, crowded haunted houses, and if you or your child are sick with those COVID-19 like symptoms, stay home this year and celebrate in style next year.

Seventeen more Kentuckians have died, raising the death toll to 1,191.

The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting 1,293 new cases there, and 47 new deaths.
