Unemployment up across region last month

Unemployment was up from July to August in all nine Pennyrile counties and it was also higher than one year ago.

Christian County’s jobless rate was 8.5 percent, up from 5.9 percent in July and up from 5.7 percent one year ago. That equated to 2,124 people who were looking for work and unable to find it.

Todd County has Kentucky’s fifth-lowest unemployment rate at 5.5 percent, but that’s still up from 3.7 percent the previous month and 3.7 percent a year ago.

The jobless rate in Trigg County was 7.2 percent, up from 5 percent in July and from 4.1 percent a year ago.

Muhlenberg County has the region’s highest unemployment at 10.5 percent.

Kentucky’s August unemployment rate was 7.5 percent and the national number was 8.5 percent.
