Night one of the 70th Annual WHOP Rotary Radio Auction was a success, with 70 items sold in two hours.
Those 70 items brought in $5,160, according to auction officials, who say 83 items sold in three hours during last year’s auction.
Cash donations to the Hour Club have totaled $50,400 and it should be noted much of that money was raised back in the spring when the auction is traditionally held.
Auction Chair Scott Cowan says you can log onto the Hopkinsvillerotary.com each day prior to the auction and see what items will be on the boards that evening.
The auction helps fund the Rotary Scholars program that sends qualifying graduates of high schools in Christian County to Hopkinsville Community College for two years tuition-free and Cowan says some of those students who have benefited will be highlighted each evening.
One of the best ways to help the auction is to donate $174 or more in cash to the Hour Club.
The auction airs each night through Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m., Friday from 6 until 10 and Saturday from 6 until all items are sold. It can be heard on Lite Rock 98.7 and online at lite987whop.com and it can be viewed on the Hopkinsville Rotary website and on Spectrum Cable channel 376.
