Bentzel discusses returning to in-person instruction

Christian County School System Superintendent Chris Bentzel says returning to in-person instruction next week is the right thing to do and teachers and administrators are prepared to support students as they come back to their buildings for the first time in nearly six months.

As previously reported, the Christian County School Board voted Thursday night to return elementary school students to traditional five-day-a-week schedules beginning Tuesday, while middle and high school students will be on a hybrid schedule of two days a week in their building and three days a week of online learning.

Bentzel appeared Friday morning on WHOP and says older students have more exposure to more people in the building and in the community and that was part of the reasoning.

He says middle and high school students do better with non-traditional instruction than very young children—some of who are trying to learn to read.

Perhaps most importantly, Bentzel notes parents still have a choice with enrollment to the Virtual Learning Academy reopened through Monday afternoon.
