Two soldiers assigned to Fort Campbell’s 160th SOAR die in aircraft accident

Two soldiers assigned to Fort Campbell’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment died Thursday from injuries sustained during an aircraft accident while conducting aviation training on San Clemente Island, California.

The Army identifies the victims as 33-year old Staff Sgt. Vincent Marketta of Brick, New Jersey, and 22-year old Sgt. Tyler Shelton of San Bernardino, California.

Statff Sgt. Marketta enlisted in the Army in 2011 and served multiple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Sgt. Shelton enlisted in 2016 and previously deployed to Afghanistan.

160th commander, Col. Andrew Graham says, “The loss of Staff Sgt. Marketta and Sgt. Shelton has left a scar in this Regiment that will never completely heal.  Their level of dedication to the 160th SOAR (A) and their exemplary service in the Army is the embodiment of what it means to be a Night Stalker and a Soldier.”
