CCSO warning about text message scam

The Christian County Sheriff’s Department is putting out a warning for the public to not fall victim to a text message scam making its way through the community.

According to a news release, the text messages that may come to a phone can vary, but the common theme seems to inform the recipient they have a parcel they need to claim. The recipient is then asked to click a link in the message—the Federal Trade Commission warns the link takes you to a fake Amazon website. There, you’re invited to take a customer satisfaction survey, and you might just win a free prize. But to get it, you have to give them your credit card number to pay for shipping.

Deputies remind the public to never give any personal or financial information to any source you’re unsure of—do not fall for this scam and do not click the link in the message.
