Gov. Beshear reports 627 new COVID-19 cases, 12 deaths

Christian, Muhlenberg and Hopkins counties are “yellow” on a COVID-19 map released by the federal government this week and there are a couple counties in the region in the red.

Yellow indicates a positivity rate between five and 10 percent and red indicates 10 percent or higher. Logan and Calloway County are in the red zone.

Sixty-three of Kentucky’s 120 counties are red or yellow and Governor Andy Beshear says that makes it harder to ease restrictions when there is that much community spread.

Public Health Commissioner, Dr. Steven Stack says it’s hard to return to any semblance of normal when the positivity rate is 10 percent or higher.

Governor Beshear announced 627 new cases and 12 more deaths Tuesday. The state’s positivity rate dropped slightly to 5.48 percent.

Senior Advisor Rocky Adkins told of his 84-year old father testing positive and spending the last two weeks recovering in a hospital. He says his son also tested positive and is asymptomatic and being isolated from his family during this time has been difficult.

Tennessee gained 1,034 cases and 39 more deaths Tuesday. There were 13 new cases in Montgomery County, Robertson County gained three cases and Stewart County added one.
