Del Angel sentenced to 20 years for Kenwood Drive fatal shooting

Sentencing was held Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit Court for Sergio Del Angel, who pled guilty in June to the 2017 fatal shooting of Kristofer Armstrong on Kenwood Drive.

As previously reported, Del Angel accepted a deal to plead guilty to first-degree manslaughter, three counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, three counts of wanton endangerment and tampering with physical evidence. The deal comes with a 20 year total sentence and Judge Atkins went along with that recommendation Wednesday morning.

Armstrong’s mother, Marilee Lockhart, was allowed to give a victim impact statement and talked about the devastating impact on her family.

She told Del Angel his actions will cause her pain for the rest of her life.

Lockhart said she hopes Del Angel doesn’t find peace in his life and that no prison sentence will make up for her family’s loss.

She showed the court a photo of Armstrong with his son—who she says has had a difficult time understanding his father won’t be coming back. Judge John Atkins read a victim impact statement from Armstrong’s father.

Del Angel shot Armstrong on the front porch of a home on Kenwood Drive on May 11, 2017.
