Court hearing held for Elkton murder suspect

Trial is still set for December for the woman accused in the death of an Elkton man last year and her co-defendant remains at-large after recently failing to appear in court.

Krystie Chancey is indicted for murder, several counts of receiving stolen property and theft and for being a persistent felony offender. Kentucky State Police allege that Chancey smothered 61-year old Ted Allan Thompson to death with a pillow at his home on West Shelby Avenue and then used the assistance of Russell Walker to steal property from inside the home and Thompson’s car.

The Commonwealth told the court Wednesday morning that Walker is still sought on warrants for failure to appear after he didn’t show up for a hearing where he was deemed mentally fit to stand trial.

Rick Sandborne represents Chancey and is requesting all audio and video recording evidence from the Commonwealth and a way to meet privately with his client to discuss the case.

Todd Circuit Judge Joe Hendricks said if COVID-19 protocols don’t change soon at the jail, he will order Chancey to be transported to the justice center to meet with Sandborne. She will be required to quarantine for 14 days after returning to the Todd County Jail, but Judge Hendricks says it’s likely worth it for her to speak privately with her attorney.

Another pre-trial conference was scheduled for September 2.
