Reds, Cardinals, Cubs win, Braves lose final preseason games

The Cincinnati Reds edged the Detroit Tigers 2-1 in the final preseason game at Great American Ball Park last night. The teams open the shortened season tomorrow night with Sonny Gray getting the pitching start for the Reds. Coverage at 4:40 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

Paul DeJong homered and drove in three as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-3 at Busch Stadium in the final tune-up before their season opener. Tyler O’Neill added a two-run double and Miles Mikolas tossed four-innings of two-run ball for the win. The Cards kick off the season tomorrow night by hosting the Pirates. Jack Flaherty gets the start against Pittsburgh’s Joe Musgrove.

Willson Contreras belted two home runs to help the Chicago Cubs beat the Minnesota Twins 4-3 at Wrigley Field in their final exhibition game. Anthony Rizzo added a two-run homer for Chicago while returning from a back injury. Jon Lester got the win after allowing only one run in just over four innings. The Cubs host the Milwaukee Brewers tomorrow night in their season opener. Kyle Hendricks takes the mound against Milwaukee’s Brandon Woodruff.

The Miami Marlins downed the Atlanta Braves 6-2 in the final tune up before Friday’s Opening Day. The Braves open the season tomorrow at the New York Mets.
