Blood donations are still highly sought, even during a pandemic, and the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center will be hosting a blood drive this week.
The center will be hosting the 2020 SOS, or Save Our Summer Event, at the facility located at 1902 South Virginia Street in Hopkinsville. Director Robbin Shively says health guidelines will be in place for everyone’s safety and summer is typically when they run low on donations—this year is even worse.
She says masks are required and they request that people make an appointment—though they will accept walk-ins—to help with social distancing.
Shively says donations of all blood types are needed and they will be on location for most of the week.
Donors must be at least 17 years old—16 year olds can give with parental permission—weigh at least 115 pounds and wait 56 days between donations.
Medications must be checked with staff before donating. All donors must show a photo ID and are advised to eat well before and after giving. For more information, call the center at (270) 885-0728.
