A high speed pursuit that began Saturday afternoon in Logan County ended in Guthrie with the arrest of the driver.
Logan County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Brent attempted to stop 35-year old Robert McKenzie of Russellville on US 68 for not having a license plate or brake lights, but a news release says McKenzie did not stop and made several turns before getting on US 79 heading south—reaching speeds of 100 mph.
The Todd County Sheriff’s Office set up spike strips at Snardon Mill Road, deflating at least one tire, and Guthrie police successfully deployed spike strips again near Novelis on US 79.
McKenzie soon lost control of his vehicle, causing it to overturn into a drainage ditch.
Police say he tossed a methamphetamine pipe out a window during the pursuit.
McKenzie attempted to run from his vehicle, but was caught and arrested for fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, tampering with evidence, DUI, meth possession and several other charges.
