The Todd County Health Department is pursuing a grant to allow them the capability to perform rapid COVID-19 testing.
Public Health Director Jen Harris says the rapid tests will have results within 15 minutes.
She says the focus of the tests will be work sites and at schools—where students showing symptoms can be tested with their parents’ consent before returning home.
The Todd County Health Department continues to provide COVID-19 antibody testing at its facility on West Main Street in Elkton and Harris says only about 25 of 300 tests administered so far have come back positive for antibodies.
Harris noted a very few of those positive antibody results came from individuals who they knew to have recovered from the virus as the health department has been testing to see how long antibodies last.
Positive antibody tests indicating a prior infection are not counted as new cases in Todd County.
