Pennyrile Electric will not increase rates, gives scholarships

Pennyrile Electric’s annual meeting, which typically takes place during the Western Kentucky State Fair, was cancelled this year, but they released information to keep members updated Tuesday.

According to a news release, there will be no rate increases this year—Pennyrile Electric has done so in years past to keep up with TVA wholesale power costs, but there will not be an increase in 2020.

James L. Futrell of the Cumberland District, Bryson Price of the Eastern District and Duane Moore of the Western District have each been re-elected to another three-year term on the board. Twelve graduating seniors have received scholarships, including Belle Englebright, Hayden Cunningham, Shelby Brown, Janae Bracey, Lantana Hight, Paige Jenkins, Margaret Gillum, Sarah Glover, Tanner McCuiston, Caroline Davenport, Autumn Hope and Haley Hallman.

The Washington Youth Tour, which annually sends a Pennyrile Electric delegation of high school juniors to the nation’s capital was canceled this year. Due to that cancellation, the cooperative instead has awarded the students selected for the program with $1,000 scholarships toward their first semester of college.
