MLB Roundup

The Cincinnati Reds announced yesterday they will begin Spring Training workouts on July 1st at Great American Ballpark. Likewise, the St. Louis Cardinals will begin July 1st at Busch Stadium, the Chicago Cubs will work out at Wrigley Field and the Atlanta Braves will train at Truist Park. The season is expected to begin July 23rd or 24th.

St. Louis Cardinals reliever John Brebbia will miss the shortened 2020 season after having elbow surgery earlier this month. Brebbia received treatment after experiencing elbow soreness in March. The right-hander ended up having Tommy John surgery on June 8th after he resumed his throwing program and his elbow didn’t improve. Standard recovery from the surgery is one year.

Expect a flurry of MLB moves this weekend. MLB rosters have been frozen since March, but that changes tomorrow with clubs allowed to sign new players. Each club will submit a 60-name list of players who can participate in spring training by Sunday. The trade deadline is August 31st. Yasiel Puig, Matt Harvey, Scooter Gennett, Melky Cabrera, Jason Vargas, Fernando Rodney and Russell Martin are some of the bigger unsigned names still on the market.
