Major League Baseball’s players’ association delayed a planned vote on the league’s latest proposal for a season, further reducing the chances of games resuming at the intended date of July 19. The players, who are seeking a regular season of 70 games which is 10 more than the owners’ offer of 60, are concerned with rules changes that Commissioner Rob Manfred would implement in 2021 under the latest plan as well as a recent spike in coronavirus cases that led to MLB closing all 30 teams’ spring training facilities for more extensive cleaning. In an email to union head Tony Clark, Manfred reportedly offered to eliminate the 2021 components of the latest offer but called it impossible to play a 70-game regular season at this point.
