McGrath joins call for removal of Jefferson Davis statue from state capitol

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Amy McGrath is joining Governor Andy Beshear and Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron in supporting the removal of the statue of Fairview native and confederate president Jefferson Davis from the capitol rotunda.

In a statement released by her campaign Saturday, McGrath says “It is time to remove the statue of Jefferson Davis from Kentucky’s Capitol. It is a symbol of great pain and suffering dating back to our country and state’s past scourge of slavery. Today, this statue represents more division than pride as it reflects the poisonous beliefs that not all people are created equal. Its presence in the Capitol is a daily reminder of a vile racism in our country that should have died a long time ago. This is the right thing to do, and it’s about time we did it.”
