The Kentucky legal system is set to resume trials and court proceedings June 1st and in-person cases will begin again.
Limited legal actions have been taking place by video since the March shut down of the courts. According to a news release from Kentucky Chief Justice John Minton that provides guidelines on how reopening will take place, jury trials shall be postponed and rescheduled for no sooner than August 1 while grand juries will be able to report in June. Jurors who are ill, caring for someone who is ill, in a high-risk category, unable to wear a facial covering, or who will suffer further economic loss as a result of jury service shall have their service postponed or excused.
There will be strict health guidelines in place, including mandatory use of facial coverings by jurors, social distancing and disinfecting. Procedures for jury selection will be different because of social distancing requirements. Attorneys will not have to wear masks.
