The NHL’s Return To Play Committee is looking at a plan to hold a 24-team playoff with 12 seeds in each conference. According to reports released on Wednesday, the playoff system being discussed does not yet address hub cities, testing protocols, visas, and other non-game play issues. If approved, the top four seeds in each conference would get a first-round bye followed by seeding matchups in both conferences of five versus 12, six versus eleven, seven versus ten, and eight versus nine.
