Two more Kentucky children sick with inflammatory syndrome

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced 260 new cases of COVID-19 during Monday’s press conference and that two more children have the inflammatory syndrome believed to be linked with the virus.

There was no update on Sunday, so the Governor announced those numbers during Monday’s press conference—there were 122 cases reported on Sunday and 138 new confirmed cases reported on Monday. That puts the overall total at 7,935.  Beshear says those are lower numbers than the end of last week, but he expects them to be a little higher on Tuesday.

Two more Kentucky children are now being treated for a unique inflammatory syndrome that is thought to be related to COVID-19—a 5-year old and an 11-year old who are both hospitalized—which brings that total to four.  Dr. Steven Stack says this syndrome seems to occur weeks after a child has COVID-19.

Dr. Stack says the state intends to seriously ramp up testing efforts in long term care facilities.

Twelve more Kentuckians died of the illness, bringing that total up to 346 since the pandemic began.  2,785 people have recovered from the virus.  Governor Beshear says they will also be stepping up contact tracing in the state, to be track down how the virus is spreading and prevent it more quickly.

As more sectors of the economy start to open up this week, Governor Beshear it’s more important now than ever to make sure you are social distancing, and practicing thorough and frequent hand washing.

Tennessee has 18,011 reported cases of COVID-19 and has had 301 deaths.  Montgomery County has 213 cases, Robertson County is at 294 and Stewart County still remains at seven cases.
