Woman injured, arrested for DUI following accident

A woman was injured and charged with DUI following a rear-end collision Saturday night at East Ninth and South Virginia Street.

It happened just after 7 p.m. and the report from Hopkinsville police says 53-year old Leo Kern of Crofton was stopped with a red light on Virginia facing north when he was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by 34-year old Deanna Dukes of Hopkinsville.

Officers had received a previous call of a woman and vehicle matching Dukes’ description falling asleep in the drive-thru at a liquor store and then driving away when she was refused service.

An arrest citation says Dukes was confused and drowsy at the accident scene and she allegedly admitted to drinking from an open vodka bottle found in her vehicle. Police say a prescription pill and methamphetamine were also on her person.

Dukes was treated for injuries at Jennie Stuart Medical Center and then arrested for DUI, possession of meth and possession of a controlled substance.
