Man arrested for allegedly hitting woman with bat

A man was arrested on East Second Street early Thursday morning after he allegedly hit a woman on the head with a baseball bat during a domestic dispute.

An arrest citation for 37-year old Darrell Maxie of Hopkinsville says his 35-year old girlfriend called ECC during the dispute and dispatchers could hear screaming over the phone. Officers located the screaming at a home in the 800 block of East Second and the victim had a knot above her eye.

The victim told police she fell and hit her head during the argument, but she could be heard on the tape of the 911 call telling Maxie that he had struck her with a bat, according to the report.

Police say a bat was located in the home.

Maxie is charged with second-degree domestic assault.
