Major League Baseball is preparing to send a plan for beginning the 2020 season to the MLB Players Union by next week. Sources say the proposal would have a second spring training starting on June 10th, followed by opening day on July 1st.

According to reports, MLB has moved away from having teams playing games in a centralized location as a quarantine league, and now wants to see as many contests in clubs’ regular home cities as possible. No word yet on if the plan would call for games to be played without fans in attendance.

Contract talks between the Chicago Cubs and shortstop Javy Baez are on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. Representatives for both sides had been having conversations about a possible extension. Baez launched 29 homers and collected 85 RBIs last season, a year that was shortened to 138 games due to injuries. The two-time All-Star was the runner-up for the NL Most Valuable Player Award in 2018.
