Mayor talks reopening plans, City Council approves CDBG budget

Hopkinsville City Council met Tuesday and approved a Community Development Block Grant budget.

The meeting took place virtually, with Mayor Wendell Lynch discussing how the local government is making plans to reopen in accordance with guidelines set down by the Governor’s Office.

He says that he will be implementing a hiring freeze to delay filling 29 full-time positions with the hope to fill them in the future.

In other action, city council approved a $270,365 Community Development Block Grant budget that shows $54,073 going towards administration costs—which includes general grant management, oversight and policy planning and management.  Approximately $40,550 will go towards the Boys and Girls Club public service funding and about $101,130 delegated for debt service.

Council also approved a municipal order that authorizes the expenditure of $110,000 from the Capital Equipment Replacement Reserve to buy equipment for the Public Works Department.
