Summer Salute in Hopkinsville cancelled

The Hopkinsville Summer Salute Festival has been cancelled for this year, according to the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department.

In a news release, officials say the cancellation was due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and with the public’s health and safety in mind. It was also based on what would be best financially, as the festival utilizes contracts with many vendors, performers and more that require advance deposits to secure. Roughly 30,000 people attended the Summer Salute in 2019.  The festival had been set to take place in late August.

Superintendent Tab Brockman says, “Everyone shares in our disappointment about canceling Summer Salute. The festival has grown to be Hopkinsville’s largest single entertainment event with help from so many city and county agencies, sponsors, and other groups working together to make it happen. Our Parks and Rec team has worked hard building the annual event and really enjoys seeing the smiles as our community has fun over the two days of the festival.”

He continues that Parks and Recreation fully intends to bring the festival back to the community in 2021. Full refunds will be issued to all vendors already signed up for this Summer Salute.
