Shelby County school district director of operations Mark Thomas was chosen Friday afternoon as the next superintendent of the Todd County School System.
The 49-year old Thomas began his education career as a middle school teacher in 1996 and has since served in several capacities including assistant principal, principal, instructional supervisor, assistant superintendent, executive director of instruction, chief academic officer, and director of operations.
Speaking to the board and community on Facebook, Thomas said he wants to see the Todd County School System ranking among the best in the commonwealth.
He pledged to create an environment in the district that allows all students to reach their potential.
Thomas will begin his duties in Todd County on July 1 and says he will be moving to the area as soon as possible. The board received 11 applications for the vacancy and four finalists were interviewed.
