The Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation and the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches announced today due to not being able to have Kentucky All Star tryouts, all of the Regional Players of the Year for Boys and Girls will be this year’s Kentucky All Star teams. The 2nd Region Players of the Year are Kenny White of Madisonville and Emilee Hope of Henderson County.
The Indiana-Kentucky boys and girls high school all-star games have been canceled for the first time since World War II. Officials from the two states cited measures taken by both state governments to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, including the closure of schools through the rest of academic year. The boys series began in 1940 but was not played in 1943 or 1944. The girls games were added in 1976 and have never previously been called off.
It was also announced the Kentucky Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards will be presented as of now on June 28th at Griffin Gate Marriott Resort in Lexington. The awards were to be presented April 5th, but was postponed due to Covid-19.
