Sixteen displaced, one hurt after vehicle hits apartment in Clarksville

Sixteen people were displaced and a man was taken to a Nashville hospital after a vehicle crashed into an apartment building on Tiny Town Road in Clarksville early Wednesday.

According to a news release, the collision occurred around 1:30 a.m. when a vehicle driven by 18-year old Rahul Malakar of Fort Campbell left the roadway in the 2000 block of Tiny Town Road.  The vehicle travelled down an embankment and became airborne before crashing into the bedroom of an apartment several feet off the ground.

A resident of that apartment, who was in bed at that time, became trapped under the vehicle.  He was transported to a Nashville hospital for treatment of injuries that are thought to be non-life threatening injuries.

The apartment building has been structurally condemned, which has displaced 12 adults and four children.  Malakar was charged with DUI, vehicular assault and reckless endangerment.
