It’s likely more men and women of the 101st Airborne Division will be called upon in the battle against COVID-19 in the coming days and weeks, while the number of confirmed cases on post have remained relatively low.
Fort Campbell and 101st Commander, Maj. Gen. Brian Winski says less than a dozen active duty soldiers and a similar number of others associated with the post have tested positive, but none have required a hospital stay. He says social distancing measures and reducing the number of people on Fort Campbell have been effective and all of those directives remain in place through at least the end of the month.
He says Fort Campbell is proud of the work already completed by the 531st Hospital Center and 101st Sustainment Brigade in New York and he expects additional Lifeliner soldiers to be called upon in the near future.
Blanchfield Army Community Hospital Commander, Col. Patrick Birchfield says the hospital has tested about 540 patients and it’s now taking about four days to get the results back.
