The University of Texas moved quickly to hire a women’s basketball coach, luring Vic Schaefer away from powerhouse Mississippi State. The move came two days after Texas dismissed eight-year coach Karen Aston after a 19-11 season. The 59-year-old Schaefer was 221-62 at Mississippi State, taking the Bulldogs to the NCAA title games in 2017 and 2018. Mississippi State was 27-6 and ranked ninth before last season was cut short.
