Fort Campbell has had a third patient test positive for COVID-19 and additional soldiers from the local post will be deploying to New York.
In an online town hall Tuesday, Fort Campbell Commander, Major General Brian Winski said the first two positive tests at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital were family members of military retirees and the third was a military retiree. He says all three had recently traveled and noted the post has stiffened travel restrictions for active duty soldiers, not allowing them to go to Nashville.
The commander of Blanchfield says all three patients called in advance and were evaluated and tested without ever getting out of their vehicles. Major General Winksi says no active duty members of the 101st Airborne have tested positive.
Fort Campbell’s 531st Hospital Center deployed last week to New York to treat non-COVID emergency patients at a temporary hospital. Major General Winski says members of the 101st Sustainment Brigade are heading to New York Wednesday to address logistics needs.
Fort Campbell continues to operate with only essential personnel reporting to post and Garrison Commander, Col. Jeremy Bell urged soldiers to comply with social distancing guidance and to limit the people they make contact with on a daily basis.
