Gov. Beshear gives Sunday afternoon udpate

There are now 104 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky and Governor Andy Beshear has ordered all non-essential retail businesses in the commonwealth to close to in-person traffic by 8 p.m. Monday.

Governor Beshear emphasized those businesses being ordered to close do not include groceries, pharmacies and gas stations.

The businesses that will be ordered to close can continue to offer curbside pickup and delivery options, when possible.

Banks, veterinarians and stores essential to home and vehicle repair are among stores that will be allowed to remain open, according to the governor.

Governor Beshear has changed his request to an order that all non-essential medical procedures temporarily cease, adding that there have only been a few practices that have refused to comply.

The governor praised Todd County Public Health Director Jen Harris for her success in reaching Amish and Mennonite communities, saying she is willing to help other entities in Kentucky who are attempting to prevent the spread of coronavirus in those communities.

As always, Governor Beshear stressed that social distancing, good hygiene and frequent handwashing practices are the best ways to prevent you and your loved ones from becoming ill.
