COVID-19 likely to impact state budget discussion

Now more than ever, the budget is the top priority for the 2020 session of the Kentucky General Assembly.

Facing the possibility of additional changes to the legislative calendar and additional uncertainty over revenue projections and expenditures due to the coronavirus, Senator Whitney Westerfield says the two-year spending plan is solidly the top priority.

Representative Myron Dossett agrees, but says legislators won’t panic and pass a bad budget.

Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville notes lawmakers are taking steps at the capitol to keep each other healthy to avoid further impacts to the calendar.

The General Assembly will not convene today, but lawmakers are scheduled to be back in session tomorrow.
