State closing prisons to visitors, asks churches to cancel services

Governor Andy Beshear says officials are stopping outside visitors from visiting state prisons and he’s recommending that churches cancel services to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The governor says stopping visitors from coming into prisons is necessary for the time being.

The Christian and Todd County jails are also halting outside visitors, according to their respective jailers.

Governor Beshear is urging churches to not have services this weekend, recommending a virtual service of some type when possible.

The commonwealth is also suspending any non-essential out-of-state travel for state employees.

The governor says all eight patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in Kentucky are stable and improving.
