Future Funding Review Committee established at city council meeting

Hopkinsville City Council approved an executive order at Tuesday’s meeting that creates a Future Funding Review Committee to look at additional options to address growing pension liabilities.

Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin will serve  on the committee and says they will take recommendations from the community, along with four new council members serving, to see if they can find other ways to meet the demand.

Council members Don Ahart, Phillip Brooks, Amy Craig and Paul Henson will serve on this new committee.  Martin says if the Kentucky General Assembly passes legislation that would allow Hopkinsville to draw on alternate methods to generate revenue, then that would certainly help the city.

They will also review the recommended budget cuts, the business license tax rate, payroll tax projection and more. The committee intends to submit its final report in June.

In other action, council approved a capital budget amendment, transferring $55,000 from the general fund to the capital equipment and property replacement budget for pavement markings.

Newly promoted Hopkinsville Police Department Captains Kyle Spurlin, Adam Smith and new Sergeant Shannon Wells were sworn in at the meeting.
