Local 2020 census participation a priority

The 2020 U.S. Census is drawing close and the Christian County Complete Count Committee is still in full gear on getting the word out about it to as many people as they can.

People will start getting fliers in the mail at the start of March and while there’s the option to fill it out online this year—for the first time ever—the traditional means of taking it will still be available.  Census Bureau Partnership Specialist Kisha Mische says they were able to hire all the hands on help they will need once things get fully underway.

She says people need to be aware that the census is coming up and how important it is—when speaking with a local resident recently, they told Mische that there needs to be the same amount of energy in the census as there was for the nickel tax in 2019.

She says Christian County is notoriously undercounted and Committee Co-Chair Chris Jung says some people still seem unsure about the census, but it’s important to make sure everyone is counted accurately.

Mische wants to make sure people know that is safe to participate in, as all information remains completely confidential and turned into statistics that then goes on the help with important needs for the community. Census data impacts everyone to some degree, including how much federal grant funding a community receives, developing assistance programs, distributing medical research, decision making on all levels of government and much more.
