734 People died on Ky. roads last year

The Transportation Cabinet says 734 people died in crashes on Kentucky roads last year.

That was 10 more than the 724 recorded in 2018, but 48 less than in 2017.

Transportation Secretary Jim Gray notes that one highway fatality is too many.

So far in 2020, preliminary numbers indicate there have been 56 roadway fatalities, down 17 compared to the same time last year.

While pleased with the current downward trend, Kentucky Office of Highway Safety Acting Director Jason Siwula says they are increasing efforts to encourage safe driving habits through localized media campaigns and partnerships, like Buckle Up Phone Down, law enforcement blitzes, and free-ride sharing promotions during the holidays.
