Westerfield, Dossett oppose sports betting bill

Legislation to legalize sports betting in Kentucky is likely to receive a vote in the full house next week and at least two local lawmakers say they oppose the measure.

Ninth District state Representative Myron Dossett says he’ll be voting against the legislation, fearing it will hurt the most financially vulnerable.

Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County believes it should require a constitutional amendment to legalize sports betting.

He calls revenue from sports betting ‘fool’s gold’ and says it will hurt the poorest Kentuckians the most.

Representative Dossett says the bill has a decent chance to pass in the House, but it’s chances are more uncertain in the Senate.
