Local legislators don’t expect any gun control bills to pass

A larger than normal crowd of citizens applauded Todd County Fiscal Court Friday morning when they approved a resolution discouraging the Kentucky General Assembly from passing any form of new gun control legislation this session, but local lawmakers says gun owners have little to worry about.

Senator Whitney Westerfield represents Todd, Christian and Logan counties in the General Assembly and says ‘red flag laws’ and other measures appear to be dead on arrival.

Representative Myron Dossett says those red flag laws allowing guns to be at least temporarily removed from an individual when a mental health issue is suspected are a slippery slope he doesn’t want to go down.

Representative Walker Thomas says he won’t support any gun control measures and doesn’t expect any to get out of committee.

Todd is one of dozens of Kentucky counties who have approved ordinances or resolutions affirming their support of the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
