Western Kentucky and surrounding areas are gearing up for a very rainy weekend, with the possibility of both flooding and some severe weather present.
National Weather Service Warning Coordination Meteorologist Rick Shanklin says that along with heavy rain, wind gusts could reach 40 miles per hour at times, and due to soft ground conditions that could cause some trees to fall.
Along with windy conditions, the potential exists for some severe weather on Friday night and Saturday morning, which is also when the heaviest rain will fall. Shanklin says all types of severe weather will be possible.
Christian, Todd and Trigg Counties are projected see two to three inches of rainfall at this time, with isolated higher amounts possible from Thursday through Saturday.
Shanklin says things could change depending on how the storm system ends up tracking in the area. Flooding in the usual low-lying and poor drainage areas is possible. Stay tuned to the WHOP Family of Stations are updates on any watches or warnings.
