WHOP is celebrating 80 years on the air today and we’re also looking forward to many more decades of service to the community.
General Manager Mike Chadwell has been here for more than half of those 80 years and says WHOP has had a big impact on Hopkinsville and surrounding areas.
WHOP’s service to the community through the Early Bird Show and local news and sports coverage have helped the station maintain its staying power.
While many things have remained the same at WHOP over the years, the digital age has brought about new opportunities and WHOP has taken advantage with websites, social media outlets, smartphone apps and online streaming.
We’ll have special programming on the WHOP Family of Stations throughout the morning on an extended version of the Early Bird Show. We’ll feature voices from the past, stories of how WHOP came to be and how it’s evolved since the first sign on on the morning of January 8, 1940.
