Several people have been arrested in connection with the theft of two golf carts from Western Hills Golf Course last month.

Hopkinsville police arrested 34-year old Scott Gray, Jr. of Hopkinsville on Cansas Drive Friday night and served him with a warrant for complicity to felony theft from a building ($10,000 or more). It alleges that on December 8, Gray worked with 43-year old Matthew Hawkins to break into a building at Western Hills and steal two golf carts worth over $10,000. Gray was also charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Lyon County deputies were investigating suspicious activity on December 30 and made contact with 41-year old Phillip Merritt, Sr. driving a golf cart on Oriole Drive.

It was determined the cart was one of the ones stolen from Western Hills and Merritt was arrested for felony receiving stolen property and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Further investigation led to a search warrant being served on New Year’s Day at a property off KY 93 South in Lyon County, resulting in the arrest of Hawkins and 42-year old Paula Hunter.

Hawkins was charged with two counts of felony receiving stolen property for the golf carts, and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Hunter was charged with firearm enhanced trafficking in meth and marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving a stolen firearm.

Caldwell County deputies were able to use information provided by Lyon deputies to locate one of the stolen golf carts and a stolen UTV. They arrested 50-year old Johnathan Milstead for two counts of felony receiving stolen property.
