Man arrested on child abuse charge following traffic stop

A traffic stop on Means Avenue Wednesday morning ended with the arrest of the driver for multiple warrants and on a new charge of child abuse.

Hopkinsville Police Officer Gary Hicks attempted to make a traffic stop on 31-year old Kenneth Buckner of Hopkinsville for not wearing a seat belt and an arrest citation says Buckner accelerated through a stop sign after seeing Officer Hicks turn around.

Buckner turned into 139 Means and Officer Hicks made contact with him there.

The report says Buckner was confrontational and that a three-year-old and an infant were found unrestrained in the back seat.

Buckner allegedly struggled with police after being placed under arrest.

He was charged with third-degree criminal child abuse, reckless driving, possession of an open alcohol container, failure to use a child restraint device and several other counts.

He was also served with warrants for contempt of court.
