Representative Charles Booker, who represents the 43rd district in Jefferson County, is gearing up for a busy session of the Kentucky General Assembly in 2020, along with other legislators.
The democrat says the budget session will have more than its fair share of bills for legislators to hear, including his own pre-filed bill pushing for the restoration of rights to convicted felons who have served their time, called the executive order signed by Governor Andy Beshear a great start.
He says he knows he’s not the only one in Frankfort interested in legalizing marijuana, and he’s also pushing to reform the cash bail policies in the judicial system.
Booker says the pension crisis remains a prevailing issue for both Democrats and Republicans, and he says the work will begin immediately on a solution.
The budget session of the General Assembly begins on January 7, and it marks the first session of new Governor Beshear with Republicans controlling both the House and the Senate. Booker is actively considering a run for the U.S. Senate seat held by Mitch McConnell in 2020, though he has not yet made it official.
