Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky is condemning the Democratic-led House for passing articles of impeachment against President Trump.
Opening the Senate Thursday, McConnell said impeachment was fueled by “partisan rage.” He argued that it sets a terrible precedent and described the evidence as “historically thin.”
McConnell claimed Democrats have been aiming to get rid of Trump since the day he took office.
The Republican-controlled Senate is responsible for holding a trial to determine whether President Trump is removed from office.
Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts would preside and all senators, including McConnell, would be jurors in the trial.
