HS Basketball

As the new season begins this evening, Bluegrass Preps.com has released its preseason Boys Top 20 poll. Male is ranked first with Madisonville seventh, Marshall County 8th and McCracken County 9th. Warren Central is 13th and Bowling Green is 14th.

College Football

Kentucky quarterback Lynn Bowden was named today as College Football Performance Awards Performer of the Week. The junior from Youngstown, OH rushed 22 times for a career-high 284 yards and career-high four touchdowns – breaking or tying six records in the process — in Kentucky’s 45-13 win over Louisville. He was also named as Governor’s Cup MVP. In addition to that honor, Bowden was also named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Tennessee freshman running back Eric Gray was named the SEC’s Freshman of the Week today. Gray ran for 246 yards and three touchdowns in the Vols’ 28-10 win over Vanderbilt. One of Gray’s two touchdowns was a 94 yard run, the second longest in Tennessee history.

AL.com reports Auburn University was fined $250-thousand by the Southeastern Conference today. The fine is due to fans storming the field following the Tigers 48-45 victory over Alabama in the Iron Bowl on Saturday. It’s the third time in seven years the school has received this fine for the violation at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

College Basketball

The University of Louisville is the new number one team in the Associated Press Top 25. The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow night hosting fourth ranked Michigan in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge. Kansas is ranked second, with Maryland third and Virginia is fifth. Kentucky is ranked eighth in this week’s poll with Tennessee ranked 21st.

College Baseball

The Tennessean reports Vanderbilt’s team did not turn down its invitation to the White House due to politics. According to head coach Tim Corbin, it was due to a scheduling conflict. Corbin stated the invitation was for November 22nd, the date when players leave campus for Thanksgiving break. Vanderbilt-who won this year’s national title-went to the White House after winning the national title in 2014.
