Two hurt, one arrested in Dawson Springs Road crash

Two people were injured and one was arrested following a crash on Dawson Springs Road early Friday morning.

According to the Hopkinsville Police Department report, officers were called to a disturbance on Sanderson Drive around 1:50 a.m. but located a vehicle off the roadway on Dawson Springs Road while on the way.  The vehicle was operated by 40-year old Keyetta Johnson of Hopkinsville, who was attempting to get it back onto the roadway when officers arrived.

Upon contact with Johnson, who was in the drivers’ seat, she was allegedly acting erratically and wearing only a bra and pants.  She reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol on her person and kept getting in and out of the vehicle, often reaching for items inside it. She told officers that the operator of the vehicle had fled prior to their arrival, but witnesses said Johnson was the only driver.

She told officers she had been traveling southbound on Dawson Springs Road and took a turn too fast, striking a curb on the east side of the roadway.  She also allegedly said multiple times that she had been drinking all day.

Johnson and her passenger, 35-year old Jermal Smith, were transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
